Why we love Veatable Bars…
Sometimes we get hungry when it's still long before our dinner time. Sometimes we manage to miss out lunch altogether.

Are you getting your 5-a-day ?
Fruit and vegetables are part of a balanced diet and can help us stay healthy. That's why it's so important that we get enough of them
Five reasons to get five portions
1. Fruit and vegetables taste delicious and there's so much variety to choose from.
2. They're a good source of vitamins and minerals, including folate, vitamin C and potassium.
3. They're an excellent source of dietary fibre, which helps maintain a healthy gut and prevent constipation and other digestion problems. A diet high in fibre can also reduce your risk of bowel cancer.
4. They can help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and some cancers.
5. Fruit and vegetables contribute to a healthy and balanced diet.
Fruit and vegetables are also usually low in fat and calories (provided you don’t fry them or roast them in lots of oil). That’s why eating them can help you maintain a healthy weight and keep your heart healthy.
5 A DAY is based on advice from the World Health Organization, which recommends eating a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables a day to lower the risk of serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and obesity.
To get the most benefit out of your 5 A DAY, your five portions should include a variety of fruit and vegetables. This is because different fruits and vegetables contain different combinations of fibre, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.
Almost all fruit and vegetables count towards your 5 A DAY. Potatoes and cassava don’t count because they mainly contribute starch to the diet.
The importance of fibre
Most people don't eat enough fibre. Foods rich in fibre are a very healthy choice, so try to include a variety of fibre-rich foods in your diet. These are all rich in fibre: wholegrain bread, brown rice, pasta, oats, beans, peas, lentils, grains, seeds, fruit and vegetables.
Fibre is only found in foods that come from plants. There are two types of fibre: insoluble and soluble.
Insoluble fibre
This is the fibre that the body can't digest and so it passes through the gut helping other food and waste products move through the gut more easily.
Wholegrain bread, brown rice, wholegrain breakfast cereals and fruit and vegetables all contain this type of fibre.
Insoluble fibre helps to keep bowels healthy and stop constipation. And this means we are less likely to get some common disorders of the gut. Foods rich in this sort of fibre are more bulky and so help make us feel full, which means we are less likely to eat too much.
Soluble fibre
This fibre can be partially digested and may help to reduce the amount of cholesterol in the blood. Particularly good sources of soluble fibre include oats and pulses such as beans and lentils.
Make smart and healthy food choices throughout the day and your body will thank you. Veatable Bars are great snacks to choose to help you towards healthy habits and away from craving snacks high in fat and sugar.
Crendon Foods is a brand new company, based in Long Crendon Buckinghamshire, and set up by husband and wife team, Howard and Helena, to develop an idea that they’d cooked up, literally, in their kitchen at home.
It all started as a way of keeping their children going until tea-time. The kids would arrive home from school ravenous and needing something that was tasty, satisfying and filling - yet not full of fat and sugar.
As they experimented with different recipes and tried the results out on family and friends, Howard and Helena found that lots of people liked their intriguingly tasty snacks.
These were snacks unlike anything else around. Savoury not sweet, fresh from the fridge not the cupboard, soft and chewy not crunchy.
They’d found a great way to keep hunger at bay without setting off that awkward craving for more sugary, fatty snacks.
It’s taken 18 months and over 500 different recipes to create the right delicious flavours.
